What is a general compensation benchmark for a Product Manager?
By the time a startup gets to Series B or C, it's basically paying market rate for salaries because it's competing for PM talent with larger companies. The company probably has close to or over 100 employees by that point, so the equity stakes will be fractions of percentage points. E.g.: PM (2-3 yrs prior experience on major/recognizable product relevant to the company's space) -- $100K-$130K salary, .10% to .25% stock option grant w/ 4 year vesting and 1 year cliff. SPM (3-5 yrs prior experience, lead multiple major feature/product launches from ideation thru deployment) -- $130K-$160K salary, .10% to .33% stock option grant w/ 4 year vesting and 1 year cliff. Series B companies will probably come in at the lower end of that range on salary, heavier on equity. And Series C companies will likely do the opposite (heavier salary, lighter equity), especially if already profitable.
