Will knowing an additional language help targeting jobs as a?

Based on personal experience in shortlisting candidates and in setting up project teams within McKinsey, I can say that an additional language may not be particularly helpful in targeting a job, unless you are looking for a job in China and the language you are adding is Mandarin/Cantonese. By simple logic, additional benefit will be given to a language if it has an additional benefit after you are hired. Within McKinsey, Language specific requirements typically come from 3 regions China (very common) South America (rare) Europe (very rare) In scenarios 2 and 3, the clients are mostly flexible with English as well and if not, the appropriate skills can definitely be found whenever the need arises. Very unlikely that you will be hired Given the above scenario, it would only make sense to learn an additional language (just for the purpose of improving your job prospects) only in case you are applying in China and learning one of the local languages. P.S.: By no means I am saying learning a new language is not a good thing. Only that it may not help in your desired objective
