Why do US states take weeks to count their ballots for an election?
UK elections are a lot simpler than US elections. In a US General election, there may be many races in play from US President down to Dog Catcher, typically all on the same ballot paper. This particular election ( 2020 ) was further complicated because of the large number of mail in ballots which are time consuming to process and some states require that they not be processed until the day of the election. Each state is at liberty to pass their own election laws ( by the US Constitution ) which complicates things again since there are no national standards for elections. Sure, the election process could be improved, but the fact is US elections are more complex than those in the UK.
