What is the difference between US work titles containing manager,?

U.S. work titles sometimes, but not always, indicate how many levels of managers work for you. Sometimes there are no titles. Sometimes titles are honorary. Sometimes people pick their own titles. Sometimes - as in sales - titles mean, I want to meet with other people who have this title. Usually, but not always, officer is higher than director and director is higher than manager. Usually, Associate Poobah is half-a-rank or a full rank lower than Poobah (replace Poobah with other title). Sometimes order matters. At Disney, Director of Technology is a much higher rank than Technical Director. At other companies there might be no difference. The best way to find out what the titles mean is to ask the company that uses them.
