How could traffic be better managed in Seoul?
Thanks for the A2A. I do not know Seoul but the basics are more or less the same for most cities. Decrease the individual transport, increase public transport. Less private cars and more buses can make more fluid the traffic in a street. People must be incentivized to use public transport making it affordable, safe, reliable and constant. Increase alternate transport methods like bikes. Again takes less space than cars is cheaper and more ecological, walking takes even less space. Metro system. A reliable metro system that covers the entire city, is affordable, constant and safe takes people from streets giving them another option of transport. Urban education. People and drivers must learn to respect the traffic laws, I am not know if this is the case but traffic increase when people constant ignore them or disrespect them. A typical example of this is to invade the street with vendors or to park in areas where is forbidden, or park in a second line. Parking lots. They may be expensive but buildings should offer some parking, usually there are regulations about it so if they offer them it will be good to use it instead to park outside of them. Synchronize the traffic lights. Traffic lights can be followed live and adjust them in order to relieve traffic. Speed limits and synchronized lights usually must be enough used together and when respected. Synchronize the public transport options. To make easy to go down from the metro to the bus and the other way around without increase if possible the cost will make more attractive to use it. There are cities that have huge parking lots in strategic areas, people leave there their cars and move in de area by public transport before return to the parking lot to pick their cars before returning home. Infrastructure. A good and planed infrastructure with mixed uses area where you can live, work, study and get entertain all in walking distance so you do not need a car. There should be more specific things but without studying or knowing the place I can not know.
