Assume that LeBron, Paul George, and Kawhi all manage to get on the?
I will go on record as saying this will NOT work if those 3 play together. All of them are basically slightly different versions of each other and would essentially play the same type of role on the team. Kawhi is a slightly better defender than George, while George is a bit more reliable on offense when focused. LeBron is better on offense than both, but those two are better on the ball defenders than LeBron. Maybe, LeBron is the better overall distributor but it only works on a team to which he can pass it to someone who can create their shot. None of them are knock down 3 pt shooters and none can truly defend a center or point guard for the majority of the game. In theory, LeBron or George would be the power forward but I doubt either will be looking forward to the pounding, night in and night out, particularly LeBron at his age. While Golden State does have 2 superstars (KD and Steph) one star (Klay ) and a half (Draymond is not a star but Ill give him a half), what makes it work is that, they all do something significantly different than the other. Steph is a lights out shooter, who can dribble. Klay is a lights out shooter but can slash and attack the basket. Durant is a elite wing scorer, who can come from the angles. They all play very specific positions on the floor of point guard, shooting guard, and small forward. As for the proposed concept of position less basketball, spare me. That only exists on NBA 2K and playgrounds. Such a team would easily be exploited by the better coaches in the league who would essentially hurt them by forcing them into similar spots on the floor, knowing that, neither LBJ, PG or Kawhi is going to regularly hit 3s, nor are they going to try and control the paint. It sounds good to think about such a team but Im hoping Magic is smart enough to not go for it. 2 of the 3 along with a shooter, a rebounder and a point guard to distribute and stay out of the way will be great. All 3 would be overkill and not be efficient.
